Knowledge of leasing ASC 842, Goodwill ASC 350, Pensions ASC 715, equity and fair value of investments ASC 321, mortgage servicing rights, troubled debt restructurings, loan participations, loans sold (ASC 310), CECL ASC 326 and financial statement preparation under GAAP
Prepare and update internal accounting policies related to reconciliations and oversight of GL maintenance chart of accounts, review of inactive GL's and new GL requests
Support projects and workstreams for Accounting group related to the preparing for the $10B Asset Readiness for the company. Provide status updates to project team and provide direction to the accounting group for deliverables needed.
Collaborate with others across the credit union to help educate them on accounting procedures and provide accounting setup and support for branch opening or closing and new or changes in products or member services
Lead implementations and other strategic initiatives for the accounting group
Be a key stakeholder for accounting among other business partner groups, and provide technical accounting conclusions and controls recommendations to business partner groups
Build strong working relationships with other business partners throughout the organization
Perform ad hoc projects as requested
Functional Competencies
Strong knowledge of US GAAP and accounting pronouncements
Demonstrated ability to balance speed and accuracy in a fast-paced work environment
Proactive approach to problem solving, demonstrating critical thinking skills. A self-starter with ability to multi-task, prioritize and meet deadlines.
Excellent PC skills (Word, Project, Power Point, Access, etc.); advanced Excel skills
Leads complex analysis for large-scale, wide breadth accounting and internal control work that spans the organization and/or has significant impact on senior leader decision making
Proven ability to communicate clearly and effectively, verbally and in writing, functional operating policies, procedures and analysis/results to internal and external customers.
Builds relationships with managers (up through SVP-level) to effectively coordinate and complete tasks in assigned area of responsibility
Discretion and judgment required in dealing with changing and new situations
Ability to be well organized, team-player and motivated
Qualifications
Minimum of a BA or BS in business administration or finance; CPA preferred. MBA or other advanced degree preferred.
Minimum of 7 years of experience; credit union / banking experience preferred
Knowledge of financial statement classification
Ability to research technical accounting policies and developing conclusions
Experience as an external and/or internal auditor preferred
Preparing or overseeing financial statement and footnote preparation under GAAP
